This Friday, the preliminary hearing for the "SASPAC" file was held at the Special Court, where among the defendants is the former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj, who continues to be held under the security measure of "prison arrest".
During the hearing, the defendants opposed SPAK's request to move the case to trial. After hearing the parties' arguments, the court adjourned for a decision, with the announcement set for July 27.
Beqaj continues to oppose the security measure "prison arrest", imposed on him in July 2024 in the context of the investigations into the "SASPAC" file. According to him, the detention is not based on concrete evidence and does not meet the criteria of proportionality.
According to SPAK, while he was heading SASPAC, Beqaj is suspected of having favored fictitious procurement procedures for EUSAIR projects during the years 2022-2023. The prosecution claims that the tenders were conducted only on documentation, while public funds were illegally obtained through companies involved in the scheme.
The former Minister of Health is accused of five criminal offenses: "passive corruption", "violation of equality in tenders", "forgery of documents", "fraud" in collaboration and "failure to declare assets".
