Who is the 50-year-old man who was shot?
New details have emerged from the shooting incident recorded on Friday evening in neighborhood no. 4 of Saranda, where the target of the attack was Thimjo Rubati, 50 years old.
According to preliminary information, two masked individuals, riding a motorcycle, opened fire in the direction of Rubati and then quickly fled the scene. The injured man was urgently transported to Saranda Hospital, where he is undergoing surgery due to his injuries.
Sources indicate that Thimjo Rubati is a person with a criminal record, known by the authorities for acts related to the trafficking of illegal immigrants, smuggling, illegal possession of weapons and trafficking of motor vehicles. He also has two identities as he is also known as Sandri Rubati. His name is not unknown to the police as in 2002 he was arrested for trafficking minors and in 2012 for the kidnapping of a 16-year-old girl.
The attack took place just a few meters from the place where Saranda Police officer Mihal Velço was raped the night before. According to sources, one of the people wanted for that incident is Andrea Rubati, 27, the son of the injured man, along with Antonio Lefter, 30, and Engjëll Dalanaj, 30.
According to the Police, the three suspects are accused of hitting and threatening Officer Velço with a knife after he introduced himself as a police officer and asked them to stop dangerous maneuvers with motorcycles in the city. After the incident, they quickly fled and are wanted.
Investigators are verifying all leads, including whether the assassination attempt on Thimjo Rubati is related to the incident that occurred the night before, while so far the perpetrators of the armed attack have not been officially identified.
