A 19-year-old Albanian man has been arrested by the Savona Police in Italy after an anti-drug operation led to the discovery of over 3 kilograms of narcotics. According to Italian authorities, the young man had a previous criminal record.
The investigation was launched as part of the fight against drug trafficking among young people. During the surveillance, officers noticed that the 19-year-old was living a luxurious life, incompatible with the lack of a legal source of income, which increased suspicions against him.
Police located him near a shopping mall in Savona. Initially, he stated that he only used the family apartment, but investigators determined that he also frequented another apartment in the same area, which was not registered in his name.
Suspicions led authorities to search the second apartment, where, with the help of drug sniffer dog Rey, a significant amount of narcotics was discovered. In total, 1.03 kilograms of hashish, 2.145 kilograms of marijuana and around 280 grams of cocaine were seized, with an estimated retail value of over 50,000 euros.
According to police, the drugs were hidden in various places in the apartment, including a storage room and the kitchen, where some of it was placed inside food containers, in cupboards and the refrigerator.
During the search, materials suspected of being used for the separation and packaging of narcotics, two mobile phones and 1,400 euros in cash in various denominations were also seized. According to Italian authorities, this amount did not match the legal income of the young man, who is unemployed.
At the conclusion of the proceedings, the 19-year-old was sent to the "Marassi" prison in Genoa, where he will remain at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
