Meta accused SPAK of concealing evidence and politicizing the process, while stating that Monika Kryemadhi has no responsibility for the CEZ-DIA issue.
While attempting to wash his hands of his innocence, PL president Ilir Meta made strong accusations during the hearing held at the Criminal Court, describing the process against him as politicized and manipulated.
In his testimony, Meta focused on the October 21 arrest, which he described as a "kidnapping", claiming that the SPAK order was communicated to him several hours after he had been detained by persons who, according to him, had not been identified.
The former president also accused prosecutors of concealing documents received from US authorities regarding the US lobbying case, claiming that a later explanatory response was not made available to the defense.
In his speech before the trial panel, the leader of the Freedom Party also focused on his ex-wife, Monika Kryemadhi, emphasizing that she should not be held responsible for the CEZ-DIA case.
"I am here to take responsibility for each of my individual actions. Ms. Kryemadhi does not have to take responsibility for CEZ-DIA," Meta declared.
He also accused the prosecution of concealing evidence and attempting to influence public opinion through, according to him, biased interpretations of the evidence.
Focusing on lobbying documents registered in the US under the FARA (Foreign Agents Registration Act) logo, Meta explained that they do not constitute incriminating evidence and that his name does not appear in any contract.
"FARA is simply a portal where thousands of companies publish data for transparency, but it is neither a court nor a prosecutor. There is no signature of Ilir Meta in the agreement with GSIS! The agreement is between the LSI and GSIS. You, Mr. Kllapi, knew from the beginning that only 15 thousand dollars were paid. You received something else in September and something else in November, you kept it hidden and asked me again in January. There is a clear tendency to politicize the process. When you don't have facts, you will make it political!" - Meta said.
Meta at the GJKKO: I think we should be equal before the law. I am very outraged, honorable judges, prosecutors, participants, because in addition to the many lies repeated in the preliminary hearings, I heard something shocking.
The prosecutor said that after the investigation with McKeon, it turned out that there was only one invoice for 15 thousand USD. I am outraged, because when I was asked about this issue, I made it clear that I only had one payment of 15 thousand USD, by decision of the presidium, with the bank.
In September, they received a letter-order for McKeon, alleging that meetings had taken place in the US and illegal payments had been made. I was kidnapped on October 21 at 12:08 by unknown persons. At 14:06, I was informed of the SPAK prosecutors' order. After I was arrested, on November 15, another response came from the US, clarifying.
The gentlemen not only did not inform me, but in January they asked me again about McKeon Group. After the final answer came in November, they asked me again in January. FARA is a portal, where thousands of companies publish for transparency, but it is neither a court nor a prosecutor. There is no signature of Ilir Meta in the agreement with GSIS. The prosecution has hidden the testimony given to Ndini Tavani in 2011 by Hejsek, where it is clear that he did not remember the specific name. Even the one with 200 thousand is done to manipulate public opinion. It is not even understood what it is about. Nor is there any answer.
