Albania is expected to mark another step in the European integration process, as an Intergovernmental Conference with the European Union will be held in Brussels on July 14, where the closure of the first three chapters of the accession negotiations is expected to be formalized.
The official Albanian delegation will be led by Prime Minister Edi Rama. The conference has been confirmed by the European Union institutions and is considered an important moment in the progress of the negotiations, marking the start of the phase of gradual closure of the negotiating chapters.
According to the agenda, the conference will take place at the premises of the Council of the European Union and is expected to start at around 19:00. Prime Minister Rama will address representatives of EU member states, together with the Irish Foreign Minister and the Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos.
During the conference, the closure of three negotiation chapters is expected to be formalized:
Chapter 25 – Scientific research
Chapter 26 – Education and culture
Chapter 30 – Foreign relations
A press conference is scheduled at the end of the meeting, which is expected to take place around 8:00 PM.
The closure of these chapters coincides with the Irish presidency of the Council of the European Union, a mandate that Ireland will hold until December 31 of this year. The European authorities and the Albanian side aim for the negotiation process to continue at an accelerated pace in the coming months.
Before his engagements in Brussels, Rama will stop in Paris on July 13, at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron. The Albanian Prime Minister will participate in a working dinner dedicated to Ukrainian volunteers, while on the morning of July 14 he will also be present at the French Military Parade, before traveling to Brussels for the Intergovernmental Conference with the European Union.
