Adrien Brody won an Oscar for the film 'The Pianist': I broke up with

Adrien Brody has reviewed his time filming the film "The Pianist," where he played the role of Wladyslaw Szpilman, a Holocaust survivor, and won the Oscar for best actor in 2003. He shared with the public the fact that preparing for this role required many personal sacrifices, including breaking up with his girlfriend, losing weight and even becoming ill as a result of excessive devotion to the character.

In an interview with The Times, Brody, now 51, said that while he was deeply involved in his role, he has since learned that it is not necessary to make such huge sacrifices for a successful performance. He called that period of his life "toxic" and said he would not be willing to sacrifice more for a similar role.

After winning the Oscar, Brody was drawn away from the media spotlight and went into a period of isolation, facing the pressures of fame. He retreated to a village where he was able to cope with the burden.

In 2025, Brody is back in the spotlight with a Golden Globe nomination for his role in the film “The Brutalist,” in which he plays a Jewish architect who survives the Holocaust. The project has received seven nominations, including for supporting actors Felicity Jones and Guy Pearce.

In addition to his film career, Brody has expressed gratitude for his partner, Georgina Chapman, who has supported him during his final years in the industry. They tied the knot in 2019, following Chapman's split from Harvey Weinstein, who was convicted of serious charges.
