At the height of the debates that have accompanied the protests of recent days, moderator Einxhel Shkira has reacted to Prime Minister Edi Rama's statements regarding the Albanians of Kosovo and North Macedonia who have been involved in the recent developments in Tirana.
The debate began after a post by Rama, in which he argued that Albanians from Kosovo and North Macedonia cannot be considered part of Albania's diaspora, as they live in their own countries and are not immigrants in foreign countries. The Prime Minister added that their presentation as a "diaspora" in Tirana serves, according to him, a political narrative that encourages division.
This stance was opposed by Shkira, who in her reaction on social media called the division of Albanians according to state borders hypocrisy.
"What hypocrisy to tell your fellow countrymen that they don't belong in Albania, because this country is yours and they belong somewhere else ," she wrote.
The moderator argued that Albanians in Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Montenegro are part of the same national identity and that their successes have often been used as a reason for pride by Albanian politics.
"When one of them has international achievements, you run first to take a piece of their success, being proud of your Albanians. While today, who have come to a land that belongs to you as much as them, we belong to North Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro," she wrote.
In another reaction, Shkira also criticized the way in which, according to her, public figures who express critical positions towards the government are being treated. She accused the prime minister of using public pressure and denigrating language towards well-known figures.
"Everything you're doing is unbecoming of you, as a statesman who received 800,000 votes, you're struggling so badly that even a little bit might hurt people," she said.
Shkira added that efforts to intimidate public figures will not yield results, emphasizing that they have long faced attacks and labeling in public spaces.
"The strategy of intimidation through bullying and insulting influencers will not work ," she declared, adding that they are "totally immune to any form of bullying."
