76th edition of the Italian song contest/ Ermal Meta touches hearts in Sanremo

Inspired by the gaze of a little girl from Gaza and a lullaby sung to his daughter, Ermal Meta took to the stage of the 2026 Sanremo Festival with the ballad "Stella Stellina", bringing one of the most emotional moments of the first evening.

The song comes as a dedication to a girl killed in Gaza, but its message goes beyond a single story. Through heartfelt verses, the artist gives voice to all the innocent victims of the conflict in Palestine, turning the Sanremo stage into a space of reflection and awareness.

A symbolic element that caught the eye was the name “Amal” embroidered on the collar of his shirt. More than a distinct identity, “Amal” was perceived as a representative figure for children affected by the war. On social media, Meta explained that the protagonist of “Stella Stellina” is “a girl without a name, but perhaps with all the names,” mentioning Aysha, Amal, Layla, Nour, Hind, names that symbolize girls who can be “nobody’s daughter and at the same time everyone’s daughter.”

This performance once again confirms Meta's tendency to tackle sensitive social topics. In the past, he has touched deep wounds with "Vietato morire", dedicated to domestic violence, as well as with "Non mi avete fatto niente", the song with which he triumphed at the 2018 edition of the festival alongside Fabrizio Moro.

The 76th edition of the festival opened on the stage of the Teatro Ariston, hosted by Carlo Conti and Laura Pausini, bringing a festive atmosphere, but also moments of emotional weight. The evening began with a tribute to Pippo Baudo, a historical figure of the festival, as well as a greeting to conductor Peppe Vessicchio.

Another highlight of the night was the performance of special guest Tiziano Ferro, who celebrated the 25th anniversary of the hit "Perdono" with a medley of songs that electrified the audience in the hall.

As for the provisional classification after the first night, there were no surprises: three women ranked on the podium. The Top 5 included Arisa, Fulminacci, Serena Brancale, Ditonellapiaga, and the duo Fedez & Marco Masini.

However, beyond the rankings and the competition, what remained in the memory was the moment when a single name, "Amal", became a symbol of pain, but also of hope, on one of the biggest stages of Italian music.
