On May 25, 1846, in Frashër, Dangëllië, Naim Frashëri, the poet and inspirer of the National Renaissance, was born.
Naim was formed with a broad cultural and philosophical worldview, between the oriental tradition of his homeland and Western culture at the “Zosimea” gymnasium in Ioannina. This preparation gave him the opportunity to bring new ideas for education, literature and the progress of his people.
As an active participant in the League of Prizren and the Istanbul Society, he contributed to the spread of learning in the mother tongue and to strengthening the sense of belonging among Albanians.
His literary creativity occupies a special place in our culture.
In the poem “Livestock and Agriculture” he described the beauties of the country and the lives of ordinary people. The collection “Summer Flowers” brought philosophical thoughts and a spirit of love for the country, while the magnificent epic poem “The Story of Skanderbeg” elevated the figure of the national hero as a symbol of resistance and unity. In addition to literature, Naim Frashëri also compiled textbooks, making a valuable contribution to the development of Albanian education.
His works are distinguished by the pure language, human feeling and patriotic spirit they convey. "You Albania, give me honor, give me the Albanian name" remains even today one of the most powerful calls for love for the country.
