Journalist Edmond Guri spoke about the macabre event that occurred in Skourta, Greece, where 27-year-old Albanian Sulo Halili was found murdered and charred.
The journalist, in a live broadcast from Athens, brought new details on the investigations of the Greek authorities and the coverage of the local media.
Guri described the case as very complicated, comparing it to a crime thriller, as versions of the event have changed from day to day.
He added that one of the police leads is related to the possibility of a fatal coincidence, where the victim may have been confused with another Albanian person with a criminal record.
" We are dealing with a very complicated case, because it was initially said differently and now the event is developing differently. It seems we are dealing with a crossroads, because the police have not yet been able to clarify the dynamics of this event ," Guri said on RTSH's "Në Kohë Reale".
Investigations are currently examining two main leads, he said, "the possibility that the victim was executed by his partner's ex-boyfriend, who had previously threatened her."
According to him, Greek authorities are investigating another lead, related to the possibility of a fatal coincidence.
" There is another Albanian person, with the same first and last name, who is known for criminal records and is suspected of being a contract killer. Due to the great similarity in physiognomy and identity, the perpetrators of the crime may have thought that the victim was precisely this person with a criminal past."
The victim's family and their lawyer do not rule out the possibility of coincidence, stressing that the young man had no criminal record and was a quiet person who had built his life. It is suspected that he fell for a trap after contacting a woman on social media, with whom he had been talking for six months .
During the interview, the journalist said that, " Greek authorities have seized the family's cell phones and are investigating the victim's last contacts, while the main clue remains the identification of the person who met him and led him to execution. The police suspect that professionals from the organized crime world are behind the crime ."
