New details emerge from the serious incident on the outskirts of the Pontanézen neighborhood on Rue Général-Paulet.
An Albanian couple were found dead inside their apartment on the fourth floor of the building, while the children were at school.
It was neighbors who notified the police around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon after hearing gunshots inside the apartment.
When firefighters forced open the door, they discovered two lifeless bodies, that of a 30-year-old Albanian woman and her partner.
According to French media, the 36-year-old Albanian first shot himself with a hunting rifle and then killed himself.
The couple's two minor children were taken into the care of Child Welfare Services, the prosecutor's office announced Friday.
On October 23, the mother reported to the police in Brest that she had been psychologically abused by her partner, describing it as "pathological jealousy" and "coercive control," "while ruling out any physical violence," according to the prosecutor.
"She was very afraid of him. We had already called the police and the emergency services," a neighbor of the couple told Le Télégramme, citing repeated abuse against the 30-year-old and confirming her husband's extreme jealousy.
The woman reportedly left home with her children and was in an emergency shelter.
But she had expressed that she wanted her husband to receive treatment. However, the 30-year-old appears to have recently returned to the apartment with the children.
