Italian police have finalized an anti-drug operation, destroying an Albanian hard drug trafficking organization in the Sicily region.
According to neighboring media, 5 Albanians were arrested and a sixth was declared wanted, while over 2 kg of cocaine was seized.
The action was carried out by the Alba Adriatica carabinieri, supported by the Chieti dog unit, the 5th helicopter unit from Pescara and an operational intervention team from the 12th Sicilian Regiment.
The activity was carried out in the areas of Teramo and Ascoli Piceno. The order was issued by the investigating judge of the Teramo court at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office.
"The investigation stems from an investigation carried out by NOR (Northern Italy) and the Martinsicuro Station, which documented a widespread drug trafficking system in Alba Adriatica, Martinsicuro, Tortoreto and other municipalities in the Vibrata Valley, with repercussions throughout the Marche region," authorities said.
The criminal group is suspected of organizing door-to-door distributions organized through social networks. A distinctive feature was the drug concealment technique: large quantities of cocaine were buried in rural areas and on land unrelated to the suspects, then removed and divided into small doses only when requested by customers.
Thus, even if they were stopped or searched, they could claim that they were using it for personal use. During the investigation, over two kilograms of pure cocaine were seized. Among the suspects is a minor.
The operation is part of one of the lines of investigation launched after the attempted murder of a Carabinieri non-commissioned officer on November 19, 2024, during an attempted burglary at his home. The officer was brutally attacked by criminals when he entered his mother's house, Italian media reported.
The investigations carried out in the following months allowed the reconstruction of several linked criminal activities. Last July, one of the three perpetrators of the attack was found and arrested in Rovigo.
