After being dismissed from the leadership of the Shkodra Police and an incident at the General Directorate of Police, Gentian Berberi has been expelled from the ranks of the State Police.
The former director of the Shkodra Police, Gentian Berberi, has been expelled from the ranks of the State Police following the conclusion of a disciplinary investigation conducted by the Directorate of Professional Standards. However, the decision has not yet become final, as it is expected to be reviewed by the Appeals Commission.
The disciplinary proceedings against Berber began on June 25, 2026, after he was suspended from duty in connection with an incident that occurred on the premises of the General Directorate of the State Police.
According to the records, Berberi had appeared at the office of the Human Resources Director, where he allegedly used offensive language and exerted verbal pressure on her, expressing his dissatisfaction with the new task he had been assigned.
After reporting the incident, the Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, ordered his immediate suspension, while the Directorate of Professional Standards launched a disciplinary investigation.
Meanwhile, the Human Resources Director filed a criminal complaint with the Police Supervision Agency (AMP), claiming that she had been insulted and threatened while performing her duties.
Just a few days before the incident, Berberi had been dismissed from his post as director of the Shkodra Police due to poor performance in the fight against cannabis cultivation, after identifying and destroying several plots of narcotic plants in the region.
After his dismissal, he was transferred to the General Directorate of the State Police, where he was assigned a task in the Analysis sector. It was precisely his dissatisfaction with this appointment that allegedly led to the incident that became the subject of a disciplinary investigation.
At the end of the procedure, the Directorate of Professional Standards decided to expel Gentian Berber from the ranks of the State Police. However, the measure will only become final after being reviewed by the Appeals Commission.
