The investigations into the murder of Appeals Judge Astrit Kalaja inside the courtroom on October 6 last year have remained at a standstill because the prosecution is awaiting the expert report on the cell phone of the main suspect in the shocking crime, Elvis Shkambi.
It is reported that, in April, the prosecution signed a 3-month postponement of the investigation, to administer the forensic reports of the seized cell phones of the suspects, Elvis Shkambi and his uncle, Gjon Shkambi.
According to journalist Klodiana Lala, it is learned that during this time the expertise of Gjon Shkambi's mobile phone has been completed, while prosecutors still cannot sign the conclusion of the investigation without receiving the response of the mobile phone of the suspected perpetrator of the murder. Prosecutors want to prove from the investigation whether there was cooperation or prior organization by the uncle and nephew for the execution of the judge.
Gjon Shkambi has so far denied having any knowledge of his nephew Elvis' actions, so he denies the murder charges. Meanwhile, prosecutors suspect that he collaborated with his nephew Elvis in the role of instigator to commit the serious crime, and for this reason, communications between them, as well as analysis of conversations with third parties, are being sought at all costs.
Judge of Appeal of General Jurisdiction Astrit Kalaja was shot dead with 3 bullets on the afternoon of October 6, 2025, as soon as he announced a decision against the Shkambi family related to a property case in Shkodra. Elvis Shkambi surrendered to the police immediately after the shocking crime, while his uncle was later arrested.
