A major debate has erupted in Germany after footage emerged of young children participating in an Islamic activity, walking tied up in the streets of Berlin under the scorching sun.
On the occasion of Ashura, the day of mourning for Shiite Muslims, videos recorded by citizens show children dressed in clothes that imitated handcuffs, walking in procession, while the temperature was around 40 degrees Celsius, according to the German newspaper Bild.
The event prompted immediate reaction from the Jewish Forum for Democracy and Against Anti-Semitism (JFDA), which documented the developments and published the videos on social media.
According to the JFDA statement, the use of children in such a performance constituted a staging that combined a political message, religious symbolism, and a sense of intimidation.
The Ashura mourning ceremonies, which are traditionally dedicated to commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein ibn Ali, on this occasion took on a radical character.

Participants in the procession, who numbered several hundred people, carried flags of Turkey, Iran and Lebanon on the streets of Berlin, while chanting slogans in support of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Officially, the activity was announced as an act of solidarity with all oppressed peoples of the world. Despite the developments, authorities have not yet announced whether there was any intervention during the procession or whether measures were taken to protect the participating minors.
This incident has sparked debate in German society about the limits of freedom and the need to combat the use of religious ceremonies to spread the ideology of radical movements.
Human rights defenders emphasized that such a demonstration not only has a provocative character, but also violates the principles of treating children, involving them in politicized activities that are potentially dangerous to their health.
