US ambassador to UN says any attempt to block shipping in Strait of Hormuz will be met with response
The United States is prepared to take military action against Iranian infrastructure used to control the Strait of Hormuz if the situation warrants it, the statement was made by US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz during an interview with Fox News.
Waltz said the US administration will not tolerate attacks on international shipping or US military bases. According to him, any calculation by Tehran that President Donald Trump will not react would be wrong.
The ambassador added that Washington will continue to neutralize, even by military means if necessary, the infrastructure that Iran intends to use to exert control over the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important sea routes for global trade.
He stressed that security in Hormuz is not just a United States interest. According to Waltz, Iran's efforts to control this maritime corridor concern the entire international community.
The statements come at a time of ongoing tensions in the region and reaffirm Washington's stance to guarantee freedom of navigation in this strategic area.
