Three people have been arrested by the Durrës Police as part of an operation against illegal possession of weapons and arms trafficking, while firearms, combat ammunition and a grenade have been seized.
During the operation, citizens LD and AM, residents of Lezha, were arrested. According to the police, they were stopped at the entrance to the city of Durrës, while driving a vehicle and were suspected of transporting a firearm to sell. During the search, a pistol with two magazines and cartridges was found in the passenger's bag. A small amount of suspected cannabis sativa was also seized from the latter.
In another case, police arrested another citizen after a search of his home in the village of Shtrazë, Shijak. A Kalashnikov-type firearm, a protective grenade with a mounted fuse, a gun clip and hundreds of live ammunition, which were being held without a permit, were found and seized.
"As a result of the intensification of controls and operational work, with the objective of identifying and detaining citizens who pose a risk to public safety, by possessing or selling firearms, with the aim of committing criminal acts, the Narcotics Investigation Section and the Shijak Police Commissariat, in cooperation with the Special Operational Force, finalized the operation codenamed "Kalibri".
During the operation, the following citizens were arrested:
-LD, and AM, both residents of Lezha, who were caught driving a vehicle, at the entrance to the city of Durrës, are suspected of selling a firearm (pistol) with 2 magazines and cartridges. The gun and ammunition were found in the bag of the passenger, citizen LD, who was also found to be in possession of a small amount of the suspected narcotic substance Cannabis Sativa;
-DT, after during searches in his apartment in the village of Shtrazë, Shijak, 1 firearm (Kalashnikov), 1 defensive grenade (with attached igniter), 1 gun magazine and hundreds of live ammunition, which were possessed without a permit, were found.
"The procedural materials were referred to the Durrës Prosecutor's Office for further action," the police announced.
