Eralbi Breçani, the son of the former deputy director of Tirana Police, Erzen Breçani, was extradited from Spain to our country today.
He was declared internationally wanted by the Special Court (GJKKO) at the request of SPAK, but after two years on the run, he surrendered to the Spanish police in April.
He was declared wanted in November 2023, when a structured criminal group was hit, which included underworld figures, officials and former police officers. SPAK issued 10 arrest warrants at that time.
The police managed to arrest only 4 of them. Specifically, Erzen Breçani, Besmir Murati, Bujar Ajezi (Gërmizi) and Dedan Gjoni were arrested.
Ismail Zeneli, Artan Sulejmani, Albert Prenga, Bajram Grabova, Ervin Mata and Eralbi Breçani were declared wanted. The latter surrendered to the police, while Ervin Mata was arrested in Brazil a few weeks ago.
The charges against this criminal group include "Providing conditions and material means to commit murder", "Unlicensed possession of weapons", "Production and sale of narcotics", "Trafficking in narcotics", "Laundering of the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity", "Structured criminal group", etc. According to SPAK, members of the criminal group are responsible for 4 attempts to traffic over 900 kg of cocaine and marijuana to various countries in Europe. While the money earned from criminal activity was then laundered in Albania.
According to the SPAK file, Ervin Mata appears to have played the role of liaison in drug trafficking between his associates in South America and Eralbi Breçani, the eldest son of the former deputy director of the Tirana Police, Erzen Breçani, to whom he had given his sister as a wife. Their entire activity began and was discovered after the seizure of several quantities of narcotics seized in European ports and coming from South America.
