The assassination attempt on the Mujeci couple in Lezha

The arrested man is suspected of hiding the vehicle used by the perpetrators after the execution of the spouses Kreshnik and Gentiana Mujeci.

A 40-year-old man wanted in connection with the double murder that occurred in April of this year in Balldren, Lezha, has been arrested in Montenegro and deported to Albania.

According to the State Police, the suspect has been identified as Besnik Kolndreu. He is accused of supporting the perpetrators of the crime, as he is suspected of having hidden the vehicle used by the perpetrators after the execution of the spouses Kreshnik and Gentiana Mujeci.

"Thanks to the information provided by the State Police on the location of a citizen declared wanted, as well as the real-time exchange of information with the Montenegrin police authorities, the Montenegrin Police located and arrested in Ulcinj a citizen wanted in connection with the incident that occurred on 26.04.2026, in the village of Balldren.

Immediately after his capture, the citizen was deported to the Muriqan Border Crossing Point, where he was handed over to the Albanian Border Police services and then escorted by the services of the Lezha Local Police Directorate.

Following the actions carried out by specialists for the Investigation of Crimes Against the Person at the Lezha Police Department, citizen BK, 40 years old, resident of the village of Torovicë, was detained for the criminal offense of "Supporting the perpetrator of a crime", committed in collaboration.

This citizen was declared wanted pursuant to the decision of the Lezha Court, which had assigned him the security measure "Arrest in prison", as part of the investigations into the incident that occurred on 26.04.2026, in the village of Balldren, where citizens KM and GM, spouses, were killed with firearms.

The investigative actions carried out have resulted in the citizen BK being suspected of having assisted the perpetrators of this incident by hiding in his apartment the vehicle used by them after committing the crime. The vehicle was found and seized by the Police services during the checks carried out as part of the investigations.

"The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Lezha, for further procedural actions,"  the Police wrote.

How the assassination with two victims happened:

A married couple, parents of four children, were executed with a Kalashnikov rifle on the afternoon of April 26 in Balldren, Lezha. The victims are Kreshnik Mujeci, 39, and his wife Gentiana Mujeci, 32.

The court concluded that the investigation had not been thorough and had focused only on finding evidence against Jozef Mujec, instead of identifying the real perpetrators. The main witness was also dismissed at trial, after the witness stated that he had failed to identify the perpetrators and that everything had happened in a few seconds and from a distance. According to the court, the mention of Mujec's name in the investigation may have been the result of suggestion.

An element in favor of Jozef Mujec was his alibi, supported by environmental wiretaps and telephone records, according to which he was in Koplik on the day of the incident, far from the scene of the crime.

As for Kreshnik Mujeci, the court assessed that the only evidence against him was the fact that his car was found parked several kilometers from the scene of the crime, which did not constitute sufficient evidence of guilt.

On November 27, 2018, the Shkodra Court declared the complete innocence of both. The Shkodra Court of Appeal upheld this decision, rejecting the prosecution's appeal due to procedural deficiencies, as the appeal did not contain grounds and did not respect the legal form.

The case was then reviewed by the Supreme Court, which found problems in the way the appeal was handled in the Appeal Court, deciding to overturn the decision and return the case for retrial. The decision was issued in October 2024 and the file is currently pending in the General Jurisdiction Appeal Court.

Meanwhile, Adriano Mhillaj, 22 years old, Florin Mhillaj, 36 years old, and Renato Mhillaj, 23 years old, the latter the son of the 2016 victim, have been declared wanted for the double execution in Balldren.

As long as there is a verdict of not guilty against Jozef Mujeci and the late Kreshnik Mujeci, for Albanian justice the 2016 murder remains unsolved.
