Ilir Meta will continue to remain in prison, after the Appeals Court of Kosovo (GJKKO) rejected his request to change the security measure.
The decision was made by Judge Saide Dollani, who left the "prison arrest" measure in effect , after a review of the case previously ordered by the Supreme Court.
The leader of the Freedom Party had appealed the decision, requesting the replacement of the security measure, but the Special Appeal did not accept his request.
Meta has been in detention since October 2024 and so far all his efforts to be released from prison have failed.
The Special Structure Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) accuses Ilir Meta and his ex-wife, Monika Kryemadhi, of corruption in three cases, money laundering, and concealment and failure to declare assets.
The investigations are related to the issue of lobbying by the former Socialist Movement for Integration in the United States of America and the well-known CEZ-DIA dossier.
For this criminal proceeding, Meta remains the only person against whom the strictest security measure has been imposed, while investigations and court proceedings continue.
