From prime ministers and presidents to ministers, bankers and well-known personalities, Vovan and Lexus have set up one of the most notorious political fraud operations, exposing serious weaknesses in the security protocols of many countries.
The Thanos Dokos case caused political turmoil in Athens and opened a debate over the Greek government's security protocols. The Secretary General for National Security believed he was conducting a video call with a senior Ukrainian official.
In fact, he was confronted by Russian comedians Vovan and Lexus, who recorded the conversation and then published it, causing political turmoil and exposing the Greek government's top national security advisor.
Dokos suffered a serious blow to his credibility and, according to critics, should have resigned if he had any dignity. This is because he is the Greek government's top national security adviser.
However, he is neither the first nor, most likely, the last high-ranking official to fall into the trap of this duo. Vovan (Vladimir Kuznetsov) and Lexus (Alexey Stolyarov) have been active for more than a decade, posing as presidents, prime ministers, ministers or high-level diplomats, with the aim of extracting statements from politicians and then using them for communication and propaganda purposes. Their actions have repeatedly caused concern among Western security services, which consider their operations to be part of Russian influence and propaganda. It is no coincidence that in 2024 they were awarded the “Order of Friendship” medal by the Kremlin.
Their list of victims is impressive and includes dozens of international political figures. Among the confirmed cases is Giorgia Meloni, the Prime Minister of Italy, who was called by someone posing as an African Union official and made statements about the war in Ukraine.
Ben Wallace, former British Defense Minister, was tricked in 2022 when they posed as Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and discussed defense and war issues.
David Cameron, the former British foreign secretary, became their target in 2024, when they convinced him that he was talking to a former Ukrainian official. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was fooled in 2016, when pranksters posed as Petro Poroshenko and talked to him about Russia and the situation in Syria.
Elton John was duped in 2015 when he was convinced he was talking to Vladimir Putin about LGBTQ+ rights in Russia. Putin himself later contacted the singer to assure him he had nothing to do with the scam.

Biseda e Thanos Dokos me komedianët rusë u bë publike pas një raportimi të Banking Neës më 2 korrik me titull: “E pabesueshme: Komedianët rusë turpëruan këshilltarin e Mitsotakis, Thanos Dokos: “Do t'i humbasim zgjedhjet për shkak të dronëve ukrainas!”.
Sipas raportimit, këshilltari për sigurinë kombëtare i kryeministrit Kyriakos Mitsotakis jo vetëm që zbuloi se zgjedhjet do të zhvilloheshin brenda disa muajsh, por gjithashtu paralajmëroi për ndërprerjen e mbështetjes greke ndaj Ukrainës gjatë një bisede me shakaxhinjtë rusë, të cilët u paraqitën si homologu i tij ukrainas, Rustem Umerov.
Dokos i cilësoi dronët ukrainas që mund të kërcënonin brigjet greke si një problem politik për partinë Demokracia e Re përpara zgjedhjeve kombëtare, të cilat, sipas tij, do të zhvilloheshin “brenda disa muajsh”.

Sipas raportimit, Vovan dhe Lexus arritën të mashtronin një zyrtar të lartë grek duke u paraqitur si sekretari i Këshillit të Sigurisë Kombëtare dhe Mbrojtjes së Ukrainës, Rustem Umerov.
Gjatë bisedës, Dokos tha: “Tani është sezoni turistik dhe trafiku detar është rritur. Është e rëndësishme, natyrisht, të kuptojmë nevojat e luftës nga ana juaj. Le të bëjmë çdo përpjekje për të parandaluar përsëritjen e incidenteve të tilla”.

“I think this could cause a very serious and unnecessary crisis between our countries,” he concluded. Thanos Dokos had previously caused controversy, in 2020, after his statements about a possibility of sharing resources in the Aegean Sea with Turkey.
He then placed his resignation at the disposal of the prime minister and explained that it was a personal opinion. "My resignation is always at the disposal of the prime minister. My mistake was that I opened a premature and completely hypothetical issue," he declared.
Dokos explained that joint exploitation with Turkey could only be discussed if significant energy reserves were discovered, if they extended to the maritime zones of both countries, if there was an agreement on maritime borders, and if such an agreement would be in the interest of Greece.
He stressed that his statements did not represent the position of the prime minister or the government and that he had erred by using an extreme and hypothetical scenario to explain a theoretical possibility./ Pamphlet
