A serious incident occurred this afternoon in the Port of Durres, where a member of a ship's crew tragically lost his life during the work process. The victim is Avaz Yafarov, 24 years old, of Azerbaijani nationality, part of the crew of the merchant ship "Kyebele".
The incident occurred at pier no. 2, where the ship was moored to unload a cargo of wheat. According to sources at the scene, the young man was suddenly electrocuted while working on board, under circumstances that have not yet been fully clarified.
The ship's crew and port services immediately intervened, providing first aid, but efforts to save him proved insufficient. Doctors pronounced him dead at the scene.
The port police and competent authorities have launched investigations to clarify the causes of the fatal incident. There is still no information whether safety protocols were respected on board or in the work area where the incident occurred.
