Assassination of former prosecutor Ndoja, GJKKO sentences Plaurent Dervishaj to
Plaurent Dervishaj and Julian Meçaj

The Criminal Court of Kosovo has sentenced Plaurent Dervishaj to life imprisonment, while imposing a sentence of 35 years in prison on Julian Meçe.

The Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SCOC) has sentenced Plaurent Dervishaj to life imprisonment for the assassination attempt on former prosecutor Arjan Ndoja.

The attack killed driver Andi Maloku, while former prosecutor Arjan Ndoja and Aleksandër Laho, known by the nickname "Rrumi", were injured.

For the defendant Julian Meçe, the GJKKO sentenced him to 35 years in prison.

The Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) had also requested the same sentences, accusing Plaurent Dervishaj , considered part of the so-called "Durres gang", of organizing the assassination that occurred seven years ago in collaboration with Julian Meçaj and other people, including Bledar Polovina, Amar Shkëmbi (alias Dritan), Ramazan Rraja, Endrit Sinani, Genti Nderjaku, Bashkim Haxhija and Julian Pjetri . The trial for the latter continues in a separate file.

Dervishaj and Meçaj were arrested in Dubai and extradited to Albania to face justice in August 2024. According to the indictment, Dervishaj was the organizer of the assassination, while Meçaj was one of the perpetrators who opened fire on the vehicle.

SPAK investigations fully uncovered the assassination attempt on former prosecutor Arjan Ndoja, currently a member of parliament for the Democratic Party, after analyzing communications secured by the encrypted SKY ECC application, widely used by organized crime groups.

The incident occurred on November 1, 2019, when Arjan Ndoja was traveling with his driver, Andi Maloku, and Aleksandër Laho, known by the nickname "Rrumi". Maloku lost his life in the attack, while Ndoja and Laho were injured.

Former prosecutor Arjan Ndoja stated that he had no previous contact with Aleksandër Laho, explaining that he only knew his brother and that their presence in the same vehicle on the day of the assassination was coincidental.
