A prison police officer at the Durrës Penitentiary Institution has been arrested for allegedly giving cocaine to a prisoner while on duty. The prisoner who allegedly took the narcotics has also been arrested.
According to the Agency for the Supervision of the System of Execution of Criminal Decisions (AMSEVP), the arrested citizens are AP, a police officer at the Durrës Penitentiary Institution, and AM, a prisoner at the same institution.
The case was discovered during an inspection conducted by AMSEVP in collaboration with the General Directorate of Prisons. During the checks, it was found that the officer allegedly handed over a quantity of suspected cocaine to the prisoner.
The narcotics were seized as material evidence, while the two arrested are suspected of the criminal offenses of "Introducing or keeping prohibited items in institutions for the execution of criminal decisions" and "Production and sale of narcotics".
Under the direction of the Durrës Prosecutor's Office, investigations continue to fully elucidate the incident and to verify whether there are other people involved or similar cases within the Durrës Penitentiary Institution.
