A service unit of the RENEA unit and the Rapid Intervention Force (FNSH) has taken into custody Ilir Selmani, who 6 days ago was released by the Special Court of Appeals due to the expiration of the pre-trial detention period.
Fear of his possible escape has led SPAK to request additional security measures at Ilir Selman's home. A service team from the RENEA Special Unit and the FNSH are guarding Selman 24 hours a day, and he has been under house arrest for 1 week, pending a final decision by the Special Court of Appeal.
If Ilir Selmani is convicted in the Court of Appeal, he will immediately return to prison. RENEA and FNSH have been under 24-hour guard for 1 week, preventing a possible escape.
We recall that during the first instance trial, Ilir Selmani was sentenced to 26 years in prison on charges of murder committed as part of a structured criminal group.
Selmani is accused of being one of the perpetrators of the murder of former police officer Santiago Malko in August 2019 in Tirana.
On June 19, 2026, the Appeals Court of Kosovo accepted the defendant's request, finding that the "Arrest in prison" measure had lost its force due to the expiration of the legal detention deadlines.
In parallel with this case, Ilir Selmani is also being sued by the Elbasan prosecution on the charge of "Bringing prohibited items into prison" after the Prisons Intelligence Service seized a telephone during a search of the prison. /Syri.net
