They drowned him and threw him in a reservoir, the Appeal overturns the verdict

The Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction has decided today to overturn the decision given by the Korça Court on February 10, 2025, regarding the criminal case of the murder of 26-year-old Martin Çeço. The first instance decision provided for a total of 83 years in prison for the four defendants in this case.

The Appeals Panel, composed of rapporteur Marsela Pepi and members Genti Dokollari and Irena Brahimi, accepted the Prosecution's request to overturn the decision and ordered the case to be returned for retrial to the Court of General Jurisdiction in Korça, but with a different panel of judges.

The incident in question dates back to June 12, 2022, when the lifeless body of Martin Çeço was found in a reservoir in the village of Kolanec in Maliq. According to investigations, the young man had been strangled with a rope and then thrown into the water. The prosecution accused four people of involvement in the incident, among them Martina Pajollari, who had been in a relationship with the victim.

According to the indictment, Pajollari is suspected of having ambushed the victim, while he was suspected of having a parallel relationship with one of Mollaj's cousins who were also convicted in the first instance. The defense has contested the charges, emphasizing the lack of direct evidence implicating the defendants in the murder.

Today's Appeals Court decision returns the case to a new judicial phase, where the evidence and circumstances of the incident will be reviewed again by a different panel of judges. The trial is expected to resume in the coming weeks at the Korça Court.
