The Transparency Board has again reduced the price of fuel in the Albanian market. According to the latest decision, the price of diesel has been reduced by 5 lekë, which means that compared to the day before, it will be sold for no more than 197 lekë per liter.
Meanwhile, the reduction for gasoline is two lek, which means that it will be sold for no more than 186 lek per liter. Within the last 24 hours, the Transparency Board has decided to reduce fuel prices twice, causing them to fall by 8 lek for diesel and 3 lek for gasoline in total.
The prices set today by the Transparency Board will come into effect at 1:00 PM today.
Board Decision
The Transparency Board on May 21, 2026, at its next meeting, decided:
✅The retail price of the gasoil by-product of the SSH EN 590 standard should be no more than 197 lek/liter, while the wholesale price should be no more than 185 lek/liter.
✅The retail price of the SSH EN standard gasoline by-product should be no more than 186 lek/liter, while the wholesale price should be no more than 174 lek/liter.
????️The prices set by the Board will come into effect today, the 21st, at 1:00 PM and will be valid until the next board meeting where the changes in sales prices will be reflected.
⚠️We draw the attention of every wholesale and retail operator of petroleum by-products to the obligation to implement this decision.
????In case of violations found by various operators, the suspension of activity will be decided.
????️ The Ministry of Economy and Innovation, together with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, are committed to protecting the interests of Albanian consumers and preserving the principles of fair competition in the market.
EXPLANATION: Referring to Normative Act No. 1, Date 3.4.2026 “On an addition to Law No. 61/2012, “On excise duties in the Republic of Albania,” as amended, which provides that if the retail price for diesel is higher than 220 lek/liter, or for gasoline is higher than 200 lek/liter, the 80% excise duty level shall be applied. Based on the application of the methodology for calculating the retail price ceiling, the prices are below the limit of Normative Act No. 1, date 3.4.2026, and consequently the excise duty level shall be applied in full, 100%.
