The European Commission has disbursed 49 million euros to Albania under the Reform and Growth Instrument, part of the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.
The funds were approved following the third request for payment and the positive assessment of the reforms undertaken by the Albanian authorities in the field of business competitiveness, innovation and investment facilitation.
According to the European Commission, out of the total amount of 49 million euros, 22.8 million euros will be transferred directly to the Albanian state budget, while the rest will be used for investment projects through the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), following the relevant approval procedures.
Brussels praised the measures taken by Albania to improve the business climate, expand access to financing and support startups and companies operating in the green and digital sectors.
With the latest disbursement, the total funds released to Albania under this instrument reach 212.8 million euros.
The European Commission also announced the disbursement of 44.2 million euros to Montenegro and 65.7 million euros to North Macedonia, following the assessment of reforms in the areas of innovation, education and digitalization.
Funds channeled through the WBIF will support infrastructure projects in sustainable transport, clean energy, digital development and human capital, in cooperation with Western Balkan partners and international financial institutions.
The Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, adopted by the European Union in 2023, aims to bring the countries of the region closer to the European single market and accelerate the EU integration process through economic reforms and increased financial support.
