Tourists are coming, but not at the same pace as a year ago. This is the result drawn from the Institute of Statistics' data for the first half of the year.
4.7 million foreigners visited our country during this period, while June dominates with 1.32 million tourists, an increase of 7.1% compared to June 2024. However, looking at the pace of growth in the number of tourists, it is slower than a year ago.
"A 7% increase is not perceived as much. It is true that there is movement, there are tourists, hotels have an influx, but if we talk about expectations, we should have been a little more. If we talk about reality or fairness with all stakeholders, we can say that we are on the growth line that a tourism that claims to be sustainable should really have ," says tourism expert Ferjolt Ozuni.
Broken down by country of origin, tourists from Europe are in the lead. Data show that 94% of foreign nationals entering Albania are from the European region, with the southern region accounting for 70% of entries. Meanwhile, in terms of the purpose of travel, in 98% of cases, entries are made for personal reasons, such as vacations or visits to relatives, and less for business reasons.
In addition to the number of entries, the number of exits of Albanians has also increased. Around 710 thousand Albanian citizens are counted as having left the territory of Albania.
"We see it in two important aspects. First, we can also see it as an increase in the well-being of Albanians, who are trying to experiment in other countries. Or maybe Albania has started to become expensive for Albanians, who for the same funds spent are oriented to other markets ," adds Ozuni.
Expectations for tourism in 2025 are for 14 million tourists, while visits by Albanians abroad are also expected to increase significantly./ TCH
