On June 2, 2026, the former defendant minister was absent from court again, claiming 'official engagements' in the US; but the Assembly has no delegation for him. The media publishes photos with congressmen in restaurants, as an intimidation of justice. The Criminal Procedure Code allows for forcible escort or isolation with arrest. But SPAK does not move. Furthermore, the media has not declared any trips in the transparency section of the Assembly: who pays for the frequent trips to America?
Even in the court session on June 2, 2026 for the "Gërdeci" case, the former defendant minister Fatmir Mediu was absent with the false excuse that he was in the US for institutional engagements as a member of parliament.
This justification turns out to be a fraud, as according to information provided by "Pamflet" from sources in the Presidency of the Assembly, MP Fatmir Mediu, on no date before the court session, has gone to the US as an MP and has not had any institutional authorization for meetings in American institutions.
Fatmir Mediu's trip to the US for alleged official meetings, 1 day before the court hearings on the "Gërdeci" case, is a ploy to delay the court process, where he is the defendant as the former Minister of Defense, deeply involved in that affair that resulted in 26 deaths.
Defendant Fatmir Mediu has been doing this trick for 5 years, ever since the investigation against him was reopened and the court process for the Gërdec affair and tragedy began and is continuing.
SPAK, which has taken the defendant into custody, has no difficulty understanding and proving that Fatmir Mediu intentionally travels to the US on the days when court hearings are held, in order to drag out the judicial process, and even publishes photos with American congressmen in restaurants, as an intimidation of the judiciary to acquit him.
For the deliberate disruption of the court, by deceiving with alleged official visits to the USA, SPAK and the Special Court should be put into action to force the defendant Fatmir Mediu to appear in the hearings.
This obligation is defined by the Code of Criminal Procedure, which states: "When the defendant intentionally evades trial, he is forcibly accompanied by the police; and if the avoidance is a repeated practice, he is isolated with one of the types of arrest measures."
Or, he is prohibited from leaving Albania until the trial is over, except in cases where he is part of the delegations of the Presidency of the Assembly and his failure to appear at the court session is justified.
Secondly, SPAK is obliged to initiate a financial investigation against Fatmir Mediu, regarding the source of expenses for frequent trips and long stays in the USA.
Because in the Parliament's column "Transparency - Mandatory declarations by MPs on trips outside Albania", Fatmir Mediu has not declared any trips, days of stay and expenses in the US, nor in other countries.
According to this transparency requirement, for every trip outside Albania, he is obliged to declare how many days he stayed, which hotel he slept in, which restaurant he frequented, how much he spent in total, and what the financial source was.
Because going to the US 2-3 times a month and staying there for a few days involves huge expenses, which Fatmir Mediu has not even declared to the ILDKPI, and it is not known who pays for them./ Pamphlet
