United States Vice President JD Vance stated that Washington and Tehran are close to reaching an agreement that may not be well received by Israel, but which, according to him, is in the strategic interest of the United States.
In an interview with Fox News, Vance emphasized that, although the US and Israel share many common interests, there are times when their priorities do not completely coincide.
"Israel and the United States have many common interests, but there are also situations where our interests diverge. I think the president has been very clear that, while Israel certainly has some objectives, the primary U.S. objective in Iran is to ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons ," he said.
Vance also underlined that developments in recent months have created the conditions for a lasting solution regarding the Iranian nuclear program.
"Over the last year and a half, we have created the necessary space for the president to believe, and I think he is right, that we can achieve a long-term solution to the Iranian nuclear issue," Vance said.
In conclusion, the US vice president reiterated that any agreement will be evaluated based on US interests, regardless of the reactions it may cause among allies.
"Israel may or may not like it. But fundamentally, we believe this is in the best interest of the United States of America," he concluded.
