A cargo ship has been hit by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a statement from UK maritime authorities.

The United Kingdom Merchant Marine Operations Agency (UKMTO) announced that the information was received from a verified source at 7:30 p.m. British time.

"A verified source reported that a cargo ship was hit by an unknown projectile," the UKMTO statement said.

According to authorities, the incident occurred inside the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important corridors for global energy transport and trade.

"UKMTO has received a report of an incident within the Strait of Hormuz," the announcement further states.

Meanwhile, the potential environmental impact from the strike remains unclear at this stage, while investigations are ongoing.

UKMTO has called on all vessels in the area to report any suspicious activity, while the situation is being closely monitored by the relevant authorities.

Meanwhile, another ship was attacked yesterday. An explosion on a South Korean ship in the Strait of Hormuz brought tensions back into focus in one of the world's most important energy corridors, where any incident has a direct impact on regional security and global markets.

The ship, operated by a South Korean shipping company, was at anchor near the United Arab Emirates when the explosion occurred. Authorities in Seoul confirmed there were no casualties, while investigations are ongoing to determine whether it was an accident or a possible attack.

The incident occurred in a tense climate in Hormuz, where Iran has increased pressure on maritime traffic.
