A cargo ship has been hit by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a statement from UK maritime authorities.
The United Kingdom Merchant Marine Operations Agency (UKMTO) announced that the information was received from a verified source at 7:30 p.m. British time.
"A verified source reported that a cargo ship was hit by an unknown projectile," the UKMTO statement said.
According to authorities, the incident occurred inside the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important corridors for global energy transport and trade.
"UKMTO has received a report of an incident within the Strait of Hormuz," the announcement further states.
