King Charles is battling cancer while continuing to carry out royal duties, setting an example of resilience and dedication. Amid ongoing treatment, an unusual way he uses to manage stress has been revealed: knitting.
The 77-year-old monarch, who is being treated for an undisclosed form of cancer, has revived an old habit to cope with emotional and physical stress. The idea came back during a state visit to the United States, where he and Queen Camilla attended an event at the British Embassy in Washington.
During this visit, the King recalled his early experience with the activity. “He said he started knitting when he was eight years old. He said he wasn’t very good at it, but he also said he knew it was very good for his mental health and maybe he should try it again,” he said.
The meeting also included public figures, including Olympic athlete Tom Daley, who is known as a supporter of the use of knitting for mental well-being.
Mental health experts emphasize that such routine activities can help reduce stress and improve emotional well-being, especially during difficult periods such as treatment for serious illnesses.
Meanwhile, this approach by the King also reflects a change in perception of traditional roles, moving away from previous stereotypes of the British royal family.
