An investigation by AJ+'s "Direct From" documentary series has revealed that the University of Southern California (USC) was one of two academic institutions in Southern California that supplied cadavers for United States Navy training programs, which also involved Israeli military surgical teams.
According to documents cited in the investigation, since 2018 USC has made at least 89 troops available under agreements related to medical training of US Navy and Israeli military personnel.
Public information on Israeli participation in these programs is limited. However, a medical study published in 2020 by USC and US Navy instructors provides, according to AJ+, a rare insight into how these trainings are conducted.
The investigation raises questions about the transparency of the use of donated bodies for medical and military purposes, as well as the information provided to families and donors about the final use of mortal remains.
AJ+ points out that the documents obtained show the existence of cooperation between American academic institutions, the US Navy, and Israeli military medical teams, while debate continues over the ethical aspects of such practices.
