Trump and Maduro

The United States is poised to launch a new phase of operations related to Venezuela in the coming days, Reuters reports , as the Trump administration escalates pressure on the government of President Nicolas Maduro.

Reports of imminent action have spread in recent weeks, as the US military has deployed forces to the Caribbean amid "deteriorating relations" with Venezuela.

Two of the US officials said the covert operations were likely the first part of the new action against Maduro.

A senior administration official on Saturday did not rule out anything regarding Venezuela. "President Trump is prepared to use every element of American power to stop the drugs flowing into our country and to bring those responsible to justice," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The Trump administration has been considering options related to Venezuela to combat what it has portrayed as Maduro's role in supplying illegal drugs that have killed Americans. He has denied having any connection to the illegal drug trade. U.S. officials told Reuters that options being considered include trying to oust Maduro.

Maduro, in power since 2013, has claimed that Trump seeks to overthrow him and that Venezuelan citizens and the military will resist any such attempt. The Venezuelan president, who will celebrate his 63rd birthday on Sunday, appeared on Saturday night at Caracas' main theater for the premiere of a television series based on his life.

A military buildup in the Caribbean has been underway for months, and Trump has authorized covert CIA operations in Venezuela. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration on Friday warned major airlines of a “potentially dangerous situation” when flying over Venezuela and urged them to exercise caution. Three international airlines canceled flights from Venezuela on Saturday after the FAA’s announcement.

The United States plans to designate the Cartel de los Soles as a foreign terrorist organization on Monday for its alleged role in importing illegal drugs into the United States, officials said. The Trump administration has accused Maduro of leading the Cartel de los Soles, which he denies.

War with Trump, Maduro plans exile in Turkey

Meanwhile, as pressure from Washington grows every day, the president of the Latin country is considering exile from the country.

Turkey is among the countries that could shelter Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro if he is forced to flee the country. The suggestion, first reported by Politico and later reported by Turkish media, is based on both the good relations between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US President Donald Trump, and the stance of the Ankara government, which in recent years has moved closer to Maduro, rather than isolating him.

Erdogan and the Venezuelan leader have cultivated very close relations in recent years, following a path opposite to that of most Western governments.

Not only was Maduro welcomed to Turkey in 2017 and 2022, but Erdogan was also the first Turkish president in history to visit Venezuela in 2018.

That same year, Maduro strengthened their ties by attending Erdogan's swearing-in ceremony in Ankara.

Meetings, phone calls and diplomatic relations have allowed the two countries to expand cooperation in energy (oil), trade (gold trade) and logistics, through Turkish Airlines flights. Trump has recently been open to dialogue with Caracas, but Maduro's situation remains uncertain and any suggestion of a transfer of power is currently being rejected by the government in Caracas.

If Trump and Maduro were to face each other and the Venezuelan leader's days were truly numbered, as the US president has declared, Turkey would be one of the few escape routes for the current Venezuelan president./ Pamphlet
