Authorities in North Macedonia seized 27 tons of marijuana, a case that is suspected to be related to the 5-ton quantity that was seized a few days ago in Serbia.
The 27-ton quantity is the largest ever seized by Macedonian authorities.
According to official reports, police seized 10 tons of marijuana in the area of the former OHIS industrial complex, where "Alfafarm DOO Skopje" is registered. The second seizure took place in the Strumica region.
The police action lasted throughout the day of February 5, Macedonian media reported.
Macedonian authorities have not released official details, explaining that the operation is still ongoing. Investigators suspect that large quantities of the production ended up on the black market and suspicious changes in the company's ownership structure were noticed just days before the drug seizures in Serbia.
The record seizure in North Macedonia is related to the event from Serbia, when on January 29, in the village of Konjuh near Kruševac, on the property of local businessman and SNS official Radet Spasojević, 5 tons of the same drug were found.
At the center of the investigation in North Macedonia is the trading company "Alfafarm DOO Skopje", registered in 2023 with the activity of cultivating and processing aromatic and medicinal plants for pharmaceutical purposes.
According to data from the Central Registry, the company has a share capital of around 529,000 euros and has several co-owners, all from Kruševci. The change in the ownership structure occurred immediately before the seizure of the 5 tons in Serbia, when DS with an address in Vienna left the co-ownership.
North Macedonia's Prime Minister, Hristijan Mickoski, announced on Thursday evening that the Interior Ministry has seized dozens of tons of drugs.
"I expect the Ministry of Internal Affairs to come up with tens of tons, not a few tons, but tens of tons, which are currently in warehouses in Macedonia or, in some way, there were connections between certain legal entities, not only in the country, but also abroad, which were discovered to have been put into circulation illegally, but also stored illegally," Mickoski stressed.
In Serbia, five people are suspected of being involved in the marijuana haul found in Konjuh, two of whom have not yet been arrested by law enforcement authorities. They are accused of unauthorized production and distribution of narcotic drugs.
