Tehran announced that it rejected the latest American proposal to end the war, characterizing it essentially as a "surrender" proposal.
According to Iranian state television, the response sent by Iran to Washington rejects the American plan and sets a series of conditions for any agreement.
These include the payment of war reparations by the US, full Iranian sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, the lifting of sanctions, and the release of frozen Iranian assets abroad.
The development comes hours after Donald Trump's public reaction, who described Tehran's response to the US proposal as "totally unacceptable".
The new engagement in negotiations is again increasing uncertainty about the fragile ceasefire and efforts to reduce tensions in the Hormuz region.
