Amid Iran's political crisis, Khamenei issues stark warning
Iran

Amid speculation of a clash between President Masoud Pezeshkian and the Revolutionary Guard, Iran's supreme leader called for national unity and warned against actions that, he said, favor the country's opponents...

In a customary appearance through a publicly read message, Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, declared on Thursday that Iran's enemies are fomenting internal discord with the aim of weakening the Iranian system.

In his message, which was read during a ceremony marking the anniversary of the death of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ruhollah Khomeini, Khamenei called for national unity in the face of external threats. He said the enemies, whom he said had been defeated on the battlefield, were now trying to undermine the stability of public opinion and the Islamic Republic. In a direct warning, he stressed that any action that creates pessimism or disillusionment among citizens is tantamount to aiding the enemy.

This message has been interpreted by many observers as an indirect response to rumors that have circulated over the past 24 hours about a possible resignation of the Iranian president, due to a clash with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. These claims have been denied by official Iranian authorities.

The Deputy Head of Communications at the Presidential Office, Mehdi Tabatabaei, dismissed the news of the resignation as untrue. However, there has been no public reaction from President Pezeshkian himself or any other senior leader of the country.

What did the report claim?

Citing an unidentified source, the Iran International media report claimed that President Masoud Pezeshkian, in a letter to Mojtaba Khamenei, had stressed that he had been excluded from important and crucial decision-making processes in the Islamic Republic.

According to the report, he had claimed that there was a general control of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), supported by hardline political factions. The president reportedly declared that he was no longer able to lead the government and carry out the responsibilities that befit his office.

The report did not clarify whether Mojtaba Khamenei had approved the alleged resignation or not. It also did not include any official statement confirming these claims.
