A new escalation is being recorded in US-Iran relations, after Donald Trump approved American attacks against Iranian targets hours after he had tried to minimize the downing of a US Apache helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has responded with new threats from Washington after the US launched airstrikes on Iranian targets in retaliation for the downing of an American Apache helicopter.
In a post on X, the Iranian Foreign Minister argued that the United States chose to test Tehran's resolve despite the military setbacks it claimed to have suffered.
"Despite defeats on the battlefield, the United States chose to test our resolve. No attack will go unanswered , " he characteristically wrote.
The head of Iranian diplomacy warned that the Iranian armed forces will respond to any aggressive action.
The statement comes at a time of high tensions in the Gulf region, following the downing of the US helicopter and subsequent US strikes. Araghchi also sent a direct message to foreign military forces operating in the region.
"Leave our region if you want to be safe ," he wrote.
The Iranian foreign minister concluded his post with a historical reference to the Persian Gulf, warning of the consequences that, according to him, foreign powers that intervened in the region faced.
"The history of the Persian Gulf includes many chapters about the grim fate of foreign intervening forces," he said.
New American attack on the USA
A new escalation is being recorded in US-Iran relations, after Donald Trump approved American attacks against Iranian targets hours after he had tried to minimize the downing of an American Apache helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz.
US President Donald Trump said Iran has shot down one of the most sophisticated US helicopters while it was patrolling the Strait of Hormuz.
According to him, the incident occurred during a regular security mission in the region. The US is assessing the damage and possible response.
The US Apache helicopter that crashed in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday was hit by an Iranian Shahed drone, according to a New York Times report citing a US official, confirming information previously reported by the website Axios.
Several hours after the crash, a US Navy drone found and rescued the two pilots near the coast of Oman, according to CENTCOM.
The US command said the two crew members were ejected about two hours after the helicopter was hit.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister told Al Jazeera that there was no deliberate targeting of a US helicopter by Iran.
