Germany has decided to finance 50,000 attack drones for Ukraine, in one of the largest military support packages of its kind announced so far by a Western country.
According to the report, the drones are equipped with software developed by American defense technology company Auterion, which enables them to track and strike moving targets autonomously.
Auterion CEO Lorenz Meier confirmed to Reuters the size of the contract, saying it is worth around 90 million euros and is financed by a European state.
According to Meier, some of the drones have already been delivered to Ukrainian authorities, while the remainder are expected to be delivered within this year.
Since the start of the war with Russia, Ukraine has relied heavily on unmanned aerial systems for military operations. Kiev has also significantly increased domestic production, producing millions of drones each year, while Ukrainian forces carry out thousands of missions and strikes with unmanned aerial vehicles every day.
