The focus of recent political and judicial developments is the appeal of the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, who has taken the decision of the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime to the Constitutional Court to transfer his file to trial, requesting the invalidity of all procedural actions.
Meanwhile, the former mayor of Durrës, Vangjush Dako, has appealed to the High Court after the Appeals Court's decision that returned him to prison, while the Special Appeals Court is also reviewing the case against Altin Hajri, Jurgis Çyrbja and Ahmet Masha, where SPAK is requesting that the sentences be upheld.
In Gjirokastra, a 60-year-old man lost his life after falling from the terrace of his hotel, while in Vlora, a 33-year-old man lost his life while working from contact with electricity, where the bar's administrator was arrested for violating safety at work.
In terms of security and crime, an Albanian wanted by INTERPOL for murder in Spain was arrested in Colombia, while in Fier, the Appeals Court commuted the sentence for Azgan Mrnica to 35 years in prison for the murder of officer Novruz Cenalia.
The police have also intervened in several other criminal cases in the country: a 42-year-old in Tirana was arrested for robbery at knifepoint, a 42-year-old in Mamurras was caught with a gun and cocaine, a 26-year-old was detained for smuggling clothing on the Elbasan-Tirana axis, and a 27-year-old in Fier was arrested after being convicted of serious injury.
