After several days of very high temperatures, France faced powerful storms and intense electrical activity, especially in the northern part of the country.

According to the French newspaper Le Monde, a large part of the territory, including northern France, was placed on the orange level of warning for severe storms in the early hours of Sunday.

In Paris, lightning struck the Eiffel Tower, creating an unusual lighting spectacle. Footage of the moment, recorded from different angles, was widely shared on social media.

The extreme phenomena caused injuries, significant material damage and widespread power outages, while high temperatures continue to remain a problem in northeastern France.

In the Nord department, fire services carried out 405 interventions, mainly to remove fallen trees from roads and to deal with flooding in homes. Two people were injured, while authorities have not provided further details on their medical conditions.

In the Ain department, the storms were accompanied by winds exceeding 100 kilometers per hour. Lightning caused several fires, while the bad weather left up to 56 thousand households without electricity. On Sunday morning, about 28 thousand of them were still without power supply. During the night, firefighters carried out 118 interventions and also reported many cases of fallen trees.

In the neighboring Somme department, authorities evacuated the Retro C Trop festival, which was attended by about 2,900 people, as a precaution. Although the fallen trees caused significant damage, no injuries were reported.

Overnight, a total of 46 French departments were placed on orange storm alert level, from the Basque Region to northern France. The French meteorological service warns that the weather is expected to worsen again on Sunday afternoon and evening, with the most intense phenomena predicted from the Pyrenees to the Massif Central.
