The 29th citizen protest is taking place in Tirana against Prime Minister Edi Rama, who is being asked to resign, while the Head of Government has ruled out the possibility of leaving, with the justification that in the last elections he received the support of 800,000 Albanians.
Thousands of citizens have marched along the "Martyrs of the Nation" boulevard and are stationed in front of the Prime Minister's Office building, where foreign citizens have been speaking since 7:30 PM.
During the speech given at the rally, one of the citizens said that the protest has overturned prejudices that Albanians do not unite for common causes, emphasizing that the several-week resistance has strengthened trust among citizens.
He also appealed to police officers to avoid any provocative actions against protesters. According to him, the role of the police is to guarantee the safety of citizens and not to protect the interests of the government.
In his speech, the protester asked the participants to remain calm and not react to provocations. He said that over the past week, according to him, attempts to escalate the situation have increased, claiming that there are also people infiltrating the crowd to incite incidents.
In conclusion, he stressed that the protest will continue peacefully, reiterating the demand for the government's resignation.
" This protest overturned prejudice once and for all, especially towards the younger generation, because we were used to being told that we don't stand up, Albanians don't unite, they don't stand up for problems."
After this resistance, trust in each other has now increased and it seems that Albanians are determined not to part ways until the government resigns.
Before every citizen takes the floor to express his opinion as he feels it, I would like to appeal to the police not to provoke citizens and, if they receive orders to provoke them, not to carry them out against their own people. Since you are here to secure the people, you are not here to secure those in power.
I also have a call for all citizens who are in the square, not to fall prey to provocations. In the last week, provocations have intensified and we can say that the prime minister has decided to enter into a frontal war with the protesters.
Don't fall prey to the provocations of patronage activists disguised as citizens.
"We are determined, as we have been for 29 days, to continue our peaceful resistance until this government resigns ," the young man said.
