One of the biggest difficulties in dealing with the massive fire that engulfed a 12-story building in Tirana on Tuesday afternoon was the lack of space for firefighting vehicles.
As can be seen in the footage published by Democratic MP Ina Zhupa, one of the firefighters is blocked in a narrow alley while trying to get closer to the fire.
"In Tirana, built for blackface, these things happen..." , writes Zhupa.
The fire was brought under control only after 3 hours, while 11 people ended up in the hospital. The material damage is considerable.
The cause of the fire is still unclear, while according to the head of Tirana's fire department, it started in one of the businesses on the first floor and spread rapidly due to the facade material.
30 apartments were affected by the flames that started on the first floor of one of the businesses.
Verification in the coming hours will reflect a full balance, with some apartments having been completely burned, while others may have been more lightly damaged.
The fire that broke out in one of the businesses covered the entire storefront in a matter of minutes. The fire may have started in an outdoor area where there may have been debris. It is not yet known if there was an electrical distribution box nearby.
