The fourth day of the protest against the tourist project in Zvërnec was accompanied by tensions in the center of Tirana. Despite metal fences, increased police presence and water vehicles, protesters managed to continue the march towards the Prime Minister's Office, while the security forces withdrew and opened the security perimeter set up with the argument of measures for the Albania-Israel match.

The friendly match between Albania and Israel, taking place this evening in Tirana, was used as an argument for setting up a wide security perimeter with metal fences, police vehicles and dozens of officers in the Ura e Lana area, where the usual protest route towards the government building passes.
However, the attempt to restrict the movement of the protesters failed. After tensions built up on the ground and the continuous pressure from the crowd, the police withdrew from their positions, opened the metal cordon and removed the water vehicles from the area, leaving the protesters free to continue their march towards the Prime Minister's Office.
Today marks the fourth day of protests against the planned tourist project in Zvërnec. This afternoon, thousands of citizens, environmental activists, young people and families gathered at Skanderbeg Square, to then continue the march towards the Prime Minister's Office.
Unlike previous days, this time the protesters were faced with an unusual police presence in the center of the capital. Metal fences placed at the intersection of the Ura e Lana Bridge, accompanied by police vehicles and water cannons, created the belief among the protesters that an attempt was being made to prevent their approach to the Prime Minister's Office.
For several minutes, the situation became tense. Protesters gathered in front of the metal fence, demanding the opening of the road. Then there were pushes and verbal clashes with the officers, while part of the crowd managed to pass beyond the security perimeter. The constant pressure caused the police to gradually withdraw from their positions.
Initially, the metal cordon was opened, while a few minutes later, water vehicles and other police vehicles began to leave the area. The moment was greeted with cheers from the protesters, who considered the police's withdrawal a victory for their protest.
Today's protest comes at a time when opposition to the Zvërnec project is growing. For four days in a row, citizens have taken to the streets demanding the cancellation of the investment, which they consider a threat to one of the country's most important natural and tourist areas.
Meanwhile, the government continues to defend the project as a strategic investment with an impact on Albania's economic and tourist development. Just a few hours ago, Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted again on social media, attacking the protesters and publishing photos from projects developed by Qatari investors, arguing that the investment in Zvërnec will bring development and not environmental damage.
Despite today's clashes, organizers have made it clear that the protests will not stop. They warn that civic mobilization will continue in the coming days, until the government withdraws from the planned project in Zvërnec.
