The Assembly, which emerged from the May 11 elections, began its new legislature today, but the first plenary session took place amid political tensions and sensational absences.
The oldest MP, the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, refused to open the proceedings. After him, Tritan Shehu of the opposition also refused to lead the session. Under these circumstances, the process was taken over by the Socialist Party MP, Vasil Llajo.
The session was held in the presence of the diplomatic corps and representatives of religious communities. Also in the hall were several heads of justice institutions, including Sokol Sadushi, the President of the Supreme Court, and Holta Zaçe, the President of the Constitutional Court.
But what attracted the most attention was the absence of SPAK leader Altin Dumani and Chief Prosecutor Olsian Çela. The two seats reserved for them remained empty, raising questions about the reasons for their non-participation. SPAK itself, in a reaction to "Ora News", said that Dumani had another agenda planned earlier.
" Altin Dumani was not part of parliament today due to a previously predetermined agenda ," SPAK's response states.
