Security expert, Fatjon Softa, described the protest held in Tirana as one of the most civic manifestations of recent years, noting the massive participation, the lack of violence and the way it was managed by the State Police.
Invited to "News 24", Softa said that the protest was characterized by the participation of family members and citizens who, according to him, came out to express public concern.
"A massive protest, a protest made up of family members, those who are the engine of the economy, who come out for a cause, for a public concern. For the first time in 5 years, we have no barriers between the Police and the citizens, because this time it is the citizens. The Police have ensured the smooth running, the security of the Police has been increased intelligently and there are no more barriers with the institutions. This protest is even civic, because the garbage is also collected. Even at the picnic, garbage remains, but there is a clear message to the Prime Minister's Office," he said.
Softa emphasized that the protest marked a special moment, as according to him it was the first time that the Prime Minister's Office building was surrounded by protesters without any violent attempts or clashes with law enforcement.
"It has not been surrounded, for the first time the prime minister's office has been surrounded. Their effort has been frontal, like attempts to intervene, like the case of entering or attacking the environment. But for the first time a message was given and there is only one call, the resignation of the prime minister. The protests have steadily increased gradually, with a single goal. So it was a peaceful and civic message to the prime minister's office," the expert said.
Comparing the protest to other political rallies in the past, Softa said that violent protests usually end in confrontations with the Police, while this time the situation was completely different.
"When protests turn violent, you have the Police in front of you, and when you have the Police, you don't have the power of politics, and then we say 'Crime Police'. But there is no police in the world that is indifferent when institutions are attacked, no matter who the party in power is, and in all cases there have been attacks on the Police. Even tomorrow, if we change the system, there will be clashes with the Police. There will be a confrontation between protesters for a certain cause and against politics. Their reaction is right ," he declared.
