Lawyer Rezart Kthupi has commented on the issue of the Tirana Municipality following Prime Minister Edi Rama's proposal at the Socialist Party Assembly.
According to him, if Veliaj appeals the dismissal, then the holding of the elections will be blocked.
" The procedure is as follows: The Municipal Council will meet to make a decision regarding the proposal for the dismissal of Mayor Veliaj. The Council of Ministers will meet in turn to make a decision on the dismissal of the mayor, which must be published in the Official Gazette. Once it is published, the deadline for appealing it to the Constitutional Court begins. It is a 30-day deadline. If there is no appeal, the President of the Republic has the right to decree the date of the elections for the Municipality of Tirana. However, if there is an appeal to the Constitutional Court, the President cannot announce the date of the elections because the decision of the Council of Ministers has not yet taken final form while it is in judicial proceedings ," explained Kthupi in a direct connection to the studio of "Ditar" at noon by Bruna Çifligu, on A2 CNN.
" Let's see then what Mr. Veliaj will do because he is the only factor we do not know. Will he appeal the decision of the Council of Ministers or not ," added Kthupi.
