Former prosecutor Besnik Muçi revealed that Albanian citizens have deposited over 150 million euros in total on the TXEX platform and similar ones, which turn out to be online pyramid schemes.
" It's about over 150 million euros that are being defrauded. It's more than the damage caused by pyramid schemes. There is a criminal phenomenon here, citizens' money is being stolen ," Muçi said on A2 CNN.
He further called for state institutions to react to protect citizens from this catastrophe, and one way, according to him, is to close the platform's link, making it impossible to access in Albania.
" Whether it is a crime, simple fraud, or computer fraud is of little importance to the citizen. The State Police is to be congratulated for making the referral to the prosecutor's office. The platform should be closed in Albania, that's why we pay the AKSHI. If it comes to cryptocurrency fraud, but they are similar to these exchange platforms, but we are in a mix of virtual currency and cash. We have a 2020 law on the regulation of virtual currencies, then where are those who will enforce the law? We have the law but the state does not act. AKSK should stop it, find where the source comes from. Stop that thread of this link that steals Albanian citizens, like it stopped Tik Tok ," said Muçi.
Meanwhile, former police chief Shemsi Prençi said he is aware that the prosecution has decided not to launch investigations into the case after the police referred the matter.
" It has been decided not to start the investigation, I have accurate information ," said Prençi.
