Candidate for head of SPAK, Adnan Xholi, was asked by KLP members how he would react if a senior official called him to tell him to slow down during an investigation into a senior state official.
"It has never happened in my career that a senior official dared to call me on the phone. If there is an attempt at illegal influence, there is a law that prohibits this. It is impossible for any official to change the prosecutor's decision-making," said Xholi.
At the meeting of the High Prosecutorial Council taking place today, December 11, prosecutor Adnan Xholi presented his vision if the new head of SPAK is elected.
Xholi stressed the importance of creating an effective and credible institution by international partners, with the aim of increasing the quality of investigations and maintaining the highest standards. He highlighted the challenge of the status of special prosecutors, stressing that their experiences and expertise should not be lost and should be continuously supported. For this reason, he pledged to resolve the issue of the status of the special prosecutor.
"My vision is about creating an institution that is as effective as possible, trusted by the international community. My goal is to increase the quality of investigations and maintain the highest standards. What is the challenge? Solving the status of prosecutors. So far, it has fallen on deaf ears. I will insist with you that the status of the special prosecutor be resolved. I do not do it for myself, but for my other colleagues. Some prosecutors are fired; there are no irreplaceable prosecutors, but the experience that these prosecutors have gained should not be wasted. They have faced the most important criminal groups and high-ranking officials, we must stand by them. Expertise, memory will be lost. It does not depend on us, but we are in cooperation with international partners, and the processes last not for months, but for years; whoever comes will find it impossible," he said.
Xholi also stressed the need to increase the number of prosecutors and experts in various fields in the Special Prosecution Office, to cope with the heavy caseload at all three levels of the court. “In order not to face justice denied, the number of prosecutors and experts in various fields in the Special Prosecution Office must be increased,” said Xholi.
